CLIA is the world’s largest cruise industry trade association, providing a unified voice and leading authority for the global cruise community. The organization supports policies and practices that foster a secure, healthy, and sustainable cruise ship environment and promotes positive travel experiences for the more than 30 million passengers who cruise annually.

  • CLIA sought to elevate their brand and provide consistent communications to the cruise industry.
  • When the COVID-19 pandemic began, CLIA voluntarily suspended cruise passenger sailings worldwide, making the cruise industry one of the first and only industries to completely shut down commercial operations in the interest of public health. They invested in continuous evaluation and engagement with leading public health experts to develop comprehensive re-opening plans that include robust health and safety measures designed to help protect passengers, crews, and destinations. CLIA needed to be able to act fast to keep the cruise industry apprised of the latest news and their aggressive response to the crisis.
  • As the effects of the pandemic began to recede, CLIA tasked Novak Birch with helping them bring together the cruise community at Seatrade Cruise Global, a world-class conference that connects cruise professionals for four days of business and networking.

With a clear, strong brand presence, a suite of cohesive, visually engaging, and easy-to-read communications materials, a smoothly executed, informative virtual summit and in-person Seatrade show, CLIA is successfully keeping its members and the entire cruise industry apprised of critical updates, safety protocols, and other important information.

  • Brand Refresh: Novak Birch audited CLIA’s current brand and communications materials and conducted a brand refresh, delivering an updated color palette, iconography, illustrations, photography, and design elements that position CLIA as a leader in the travel industry and sustainable tourism and recognize their immediate and diligent response to COVID-19.
  • Communications: When the pandemic began, we helped CLIA quickly adapt to the changing state of the industry by developing timely communications that conveyed the economic impact of the shutdown, re-opening plans, and enhanced health and safety protocols. We developed a cohesive series of templates as well as new infographics, reports, fact sheets, and other materials that share news and updates and can be updated with new data or content. Our work includes:
    • Board Materials: We designed a branded set of board materials for CLIA’s bi-yearly meetings.
    • Newsletter: We redesigned the Currents monthly newsletter.
    • Fact Sheets & Infographics: We designed easy-to-digest and visually engaging fact sheets and infographics.
    • Reports: We redesigned reports that align with the refreshed brand.
    • Social Media: We developed graphic templates for CLIA’s social media channels.
    • Templates: We refreshed their branded PowerPoint and Word templates.
    • Holiday E-Card: We designed, wrote, and animated CLIA’s holiday e-card.
  • Trade Shows & Events
    • Cruise Forward Virtual Summit: We branded this first-of-its-kind virtual summit to help CLIA inform the cruise community about critical topics affecting the industry today. We crafted a brand identity for the event and developed branded graphics for emails, the registration website, social media, and the virtual platform.
    • Seatrade Cruise Global: During the pandemic, we developed a brand identity and supported this first-of-its-kind virtual summit to inform the cruise community about critical topics affecting the industry today.
      • As the pandemic began to subside, Novak Birch strategically reimagined CLIA’s trade show presence to raise overall brand awareness, showcase CLIA’s commitment and progress on their strategic pillars and focus areas, and create a dedicated networking and meeting space for CLIA and its members/potential members and partners.
      • We planned, designed, fabricated, and on-site managed CLIA’s new trade show booth and unveiled it at Seatrade, their annual industry show.
      • The new booth is inviting, bold, and reminiscent of cruising through the colors, textures, and structural shapes incorporated into the design. It’s also sustainably built, supporting one of CLIA’s strategic pillars.
      • The booth successfully incorporated CLIA’s priorities, including a welcoming reception area, networking/lounge spaces, dedicated meeting spaces, an enclosed conference room, digital surfaces for video and graphics, a refreshment station, and storage.
